Cardioprotective and Hepatoprotective Effects of Ixora pavetta and Tecoma capensis Leaf Extracts

Background: Ixora pavetta and Tecoma capensis are two less explored neglected plants species in medicinal prospective. The flowers bark root of I. used as a remedy for cough, anaemia, women urinary problems. powder useful treating fever, pneumonia, stomach problems improve blood clotting. role leaves from these medical practices is not yet clearly determined. present work aimed to examine the potentiality their leaf extracts cardiovascular chronic liver diseases. Materials Methods: Solvent extraction method extract bioactive components. were tested existence cardiac glycosides. cardioprotective activity hepatoprotective done using isoproterenol MTT assay respectively. Results: both showed presence glycosides T. recorded high yield Leaf methanolic (200 mg/kg) exhibited significant depletion total cholesterol 108.11 mg/dL, tryglcerides 81.48 mg/dL LDL 93.15 mg/ dL Wistar rats. moderate protective by increasing concentrations against H2O2 pre-stimulated HepG2 cells.
